Production [edit]

"A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Over again" was written by Matt Warburton and directed past Chris Clements as office of the 23rd season of The Simpsons (2011–12). The title and parts of the plot are a reference to the 1996 essay "A Supposedly Fun Matter I'll Never Do Once more" by American writer David Foster Wallace that describes his experiences on a prowl.[i] In one scene, a graphic symbol appears in the background that supposedly resembles Foster Wallace. American thespian Treat Williams invitee starred in the episode as himself playing William Sullivan, the character in the film The Pandora Strain that Bart uses to fob anybody into believing a deadly virus has actually spread.[2]

A guest appearance past English language actor and comedian Steve Coogan equally Rowan Priddis, the director of the cruise, is also featured. In the episode, when the Simpsons are having dinner at the restaurant on the ship, the graphic symbol makes a stage performance of a song called "Enjoy It While You Can" that prompts Bart to brand sure the prowl lasts forever.[three] This song was a contribution by Tony Honour-winning Broadway composer and lyricist Robert Lopez, who produced information technology in New York City in 2011 for the episode. Coogan recorded the vocal in New York equally well.[four] [5] The writers of the evidence provided Lopez their proffer for the song's lyrics, which "he so tweaked", according to William Keck of TV Guide.[6] Lopez told Keck that he and the Simpsons staff decided to create something "cheesy that actually could be performed on a cruise ship. Nosotros went in a Carnival Cruise, 'Feelin' Hot Hot Hot' management."[6] According to The Simpsons music editor Chris Ledesma, Lopez produced "Enjoy It While You Tin can" with a "synthesizer band" and The Simpsons composer Alf Clausen "added a Vegas-style house orchestra arrangement for the last version."[four]

The episode features two songs in add-on to "Enjoy It While You Can". "Boy from School" past English electronic music band Hot Bit is played at the get-go of the episode during a montage that shows a dull week in the life of Bart, including his fourth dimension at schoolhouse.[7] [eight] When the Simpsons become down the penguins' water ice slide at the terminate of the episode, "Wintertime'southward Dear" past American neo-psychedelia band Creature Collective is heard.[vii] [9] "A Totally Fun Affair That Bart Will Never Practise Again" also includes two classical music pieces. Warburton decided to use French composer François-Adrien Boieldieu's "Concerto for Harp and Strings" for the first shot of the prowl send in the episode. As described by Ledesma on his blog, this piece reappeared in a "more dire and dark treatment" later on in the episode during a shot of the rundown transport.[4] Russian composer Mikhail Glinka'southward overture from his Ruslan and Lyudmila opera is played over a montage that shows Bart taking part in the fun activities on the prowl.[4]
